In the FUT style, a single strip of skin that contains a large group of follicular units is moved from the donor area mostly the back and sides of the scalp and then is divided into grafts (or follicular units), while in the modern pattern, grafts which contains hair follicles are directly harvested from posterior scalp and then transplanted to the front parts where much finer scars can be expected in the donor area comparing to the former patterns. The scars will be recovered in a week while, this pattern (FIT) pattern needs no suture or cutting.
The third stage is placing the harvested grafts or skin strip. The surgery lasts about 4 to 6 hours, the head is bandaged then. The transplanted hairs grow in a month. {During the first ten days, virtually all of the transplanted hairs, inevitably traumatized by their relocation, will fall out ("shock loss").} This is quite natural.
After two to three months new hair will begin to grow from the moved follicles. The patient's hair will grow normally, and continue to thicken through the next six to nine months.
As you may see in the picture above, the grafts are placed in the tiny openings made by the fine needles of about 0.7 millimeters and then grafts are placed.
